Theorein, Giuseppe Maiorana: Forte dei Marmi

4 May - 2 June 2024 FORTE DEI MARMI
Overview
"I am a whale." Giuseppe Maiorana, a refined and eclectic Sicilian artist with Polish blood in his veins, starts from this fascinating, yet unusual identification to narrate the exhibition "Theorein," a series of bronzes that will be inaugurated on Saturday, May 4th at 5:30 PM on the ground floor of Forte di Leopoldo I in Forte dei Marmi, where it will remain until June 2nd, 2024.

The exhibition is curated by Tiziano Lera, in collaboration with Oblong Contemporary Art Gallery and the Villa Bertelli Foundation, and is part of the spring calendar organized by the municipal administration. The work represents an entire animal world, proposing a primordial reality where all reproduced beings, from the smallest like a beetle to the largest like an elephant, respect a balance and a clean form in mutual harmony.
Vittorio Sgarbi wrote about him, "The vision of these forms makes me think I am in front of a gifted artist. Therefore, I want to pay tribute to this Sicilian sculptor with the deepening of the images, of his authentic ability to give shape to a world of animals, endowed with a fundamental soul: the soul of the form of thought, which extracts a synthesis. Maiorana has captured the spiritual nature of the world of animals, which are symbols, emblems, deities."
A well-deserved tribute to the artist, who, in this exhibition, brings all the beauty of a nature, as it actually is, where animals represent everything and are able to surprise the visitor simply by showing themselves in the essentiality of their existence. The whale mentioned by Maiorana is the culmination of his deepest expression of this visceral relationship with the animal world, studied, lived, and even dreamed of over the years, and which now finds artistic expression in the exhibition in Forte dei Marmi. A unique emotion that emerges from these figures, so simple in their linear construction, yet so impactful for the most intimate part of each of us, to which the artist's message arrives, born from the heart and transmitted directly from his hands.
